The End of Partisanship? Barack Obama tags Rahm Emanuel

Attack Dog Enforcer - "Rhambo"

There were plenty of signs in the Obama campaign that “unity” and “an end to partisan politics” was just elements of flowing rhetoric and the shinny slick wrapper around a hyper-traditional Democratic package.  The tagging of Rahm Emanuel as Obama’s Chief of Staff sends a clear message to the Loyal Opposition on Capitol Hill that there is no end to hardcore partisan machine politics on the near horizon.  “Get with the program or get out,” is the message behind Emanuel’s appointment.

Rham Emanuel is called “Rhambo” for his tough arm twisting tactics and for being one of the most “ferociously combative figures in Washington.”   Rhambo is they kind of guy who, after feeling a pollster wronged him; sent a large, decomposing fish to the guy in the mail.  In an comment in the Telegraph Reflecting on his own foul-mouthed, attack-dog style, Mr Emanuel has said: "I wake up some mornings hating me too."  This is a very tough partisan guy that you would not put in a position of trying to “unify” anything.  His job, and his history, are ones of holding his party in line, not reaching across the isle and building collations.  From his work for the Chicago Machine of Richard Daley to running his own campaign he has a history of strong-arm tactics and fierce partisanship.

Also contributing to the appointment may be that Rham Emanuel is a devote Jew. He is so devout that he even volunteered as a mechanic on an Israel Defense Force army base, as a civilian,  during the first Gulf War in 1991. This is no small mater considering Obama’s need to add meat to the bones of his emaciated pro-Israel frame.  Emanuel worked for the Clintons from start to end of their 8-year tenure in the White House as Senior White House Advisor and was a loyal enforcer. He is the number four guy now in Democratic Party.

Definitely has to make thoughtful people question Obama’s promise of being a unifier.

I have received numerous emails beseeching me to "give Barack Obama a chance", to "wait and see", to "stop pre-judging" the new President-elect.
