Weekend Discussion - Should We Bail Out the US Auto Makers?

This week we were faced with the proverbial flood of news regarding the state of our automakers health.  It frankly does not look good.  Should we let them fail, go into bankruptcy and emerge leaner and retooled or prop them up with taxpayer money and give them some breathing room?

Answer in comments section and remember to give your "whys".

Let the auto makers compete in the open market without any bailouts or government assistance. Businesses live and die in free markets, so why should auto makers receive special treatment.

U.S. Automakers have been building bad products for decades, if we want any evidence of that go to any college or university and take a look at the parking lot, it's mostly foreign made cars you'll see.

When it comes to gas efficient vehicles U.S. car makers have regressed rather than progressed, sticking to manufacturing gas guzzlers, like trucks and SUVs.

Let me put to you this way. If our government gives U.S. automakers a bailout. I will as a matter of protest, never, ever, purchase an American made car again.

Hey, We now live in a global economy, lets recognize that and act accordingly.

Let them fail. Detroit has been arrogant in decisions thinking they were over and above us with super egos.

An Escalade commercial when a Dynamax should have been done during the last Super bowl? A morphing Saab commercial? Kerkorian sold all of his stock a couple of years ago after Jerry York denounced them and quit the board. Wagoner etal are old school takers. That has to stop.
